Names of Fruits -- Hiragana or Katakana?

こんにちは。

I'm confused as to when to opt for Katakana over Hiragana. Some instances are fairly straightforward, like "コンピュータ" for "computer", but other instances are not. For example, I have seen "peach" written as "もも" and "ピーチ". Which one supersedes the other? In most instances, which one should I opt for, or may I use them interchangeably?

Just like you gave as an good example, we might have and/or use two or more different words: もも and ピーチ
As you can imagine, ピーチ is a phonetically-transcribed word of "peach". This kind of words are written with
Katakana. However, we had the original Japanese word: もも.
Any words which are original Japanese are written with Hiragana unless the words are the scientific names or academic names (such as plants and flowers).
Any foreign names and words are written with Katakana.

These are the basic rules.
