You can say that ”８時の約束なんですけど” is still halfway and could continue further like "８時の約束なんですけど（、夏子はまだ来ていません）。” or so.
Stopping sentences halfway often happens in Japanese:sweat_smile:

Like Candice I have a problem understanding “８時の約束なんですけど.
Please could you break down the "nan desu ke do". This seems to me to translate as "what is but". But that is clearly not the case.
Then the following sentence starts with "but" so it doesn't seem to make sense that it would end the previous sentence.
How would I use "nan desu ke do"? And in what context?

Would you explain a bit more the dialogue context? :sweat_smile:
Situation:
The Kabuki theater usher tells Takase that she must close the door.
Takase says, "OK, I will go later."
Does he mean he will go inside the theater auditorium later (after the doors reopen for intermission)?
Or does he mean he will go look for Natsuko later?

Kanji is ideogram so it tells you the meaning then it’s easy to understand.
By the way, regarding your sentence, I can see your effort however,
‘Nihongo wo benkyousita atode hirugohan wo tabemasu’ is a correct sentence.
