東京のファッション事情 1・原宿とファッション

みなさん、こんにちは。

今日は東京の、「原宿とファッション」に焦点を当ててお話したいと思います。

原宿は、渋谷、表参道などと並び、東京でも最先端のファッションが集まるエリアです。

原宿には、国内外の有名デザイナーや海外ブランドなどの直営店がズラリと並んでいます。中でも原宿を象徴するファッションビル、ラフォーレ原宿には「東京ファッションの今」が満載です。ワールドワイドラブやスーパーラバーズなど、ロンドンでも人気の日本ブランドを取り扱っている他、日本発のホットなブランドのお店が揃っています。

ラフォーレ３階に店舗をかまえるブランド「マルコマルカ」は、ファッションリーダー的存在のタレントや芸能人をはじめ、10代後半から20代前半の男女に圧倒的な支持を得ています。ブランド名は、ポルトガル語で「クレイジー」を意味するそうで、「個性を無限に引き出す服」を洋服づくりのテーマに新商品を次々と生み出しています。ピンクやブルーなど強烈な色を配色にしたり、斬新なデザインが多いブランドですが、マルコマルカが２０代前後の若者に人気の理由は、ただポップなだけでなく、デザイナー自身が洋服の構造を知り尽くしている洋服づくりの基本があっての現代的なラフさにあるようです。

マルコマルカに代表されるように、原宿キッズと呼ばれる若者達は、大人達からみれば、「派手な格好をして街を歩いて、まあ…」という印象が強いようですが、彼らはただうわべの装飾を楽しんでいるだけでなく、作り手の裏側まで読み取る本物志向も増えているようです。

またたく間に移り変わる東京のファッショントレンド。それを象徴するかのように、街を行き交う若者の装いも変わっていきます。ある種、政治よりも原宿の若者を見た方が日本という国の動きが分かりやすいという意見もあります。

"ワールドワイドラブやスーパーラバーズなど、" could be translated as "such as “World Wide Love!” and “Super Lovers,” . 　Please note that "the complex" indicates "the complex facility"(=fashion building) in this dialogue. Hope this helps you.

In line 8 of the dialog, 「ワールドワイドラブやスーパーラバーズなど、ロンドンでも人気の日本ブランドを取り扱っている他、日本発のホットなブランドのお店が揃っています。」

The English translation contains the phrase (, the complex houses brands like “World Wide Love!”)

I understand the meaning of each of the three English words = "complex" + "houses" + "brands", but as a phrase "complex houses brands" means nothing to me.

My question is - "Is there another way to to translate this phrase in English? Is the English a translation of 「ワールドワイドラブやスーパーラバーズなど、」?

Hi, can anyone clarify 「…リーダー的存在の…」 for me? The English translation just says "fashion-leading" but I don't get why the 存在 is there...

Yuri's blogs (regardless of who reads them), are much better than Miki's for those seeking advanced lessons. But Japanesepod101.com still has not found a suitable way of teaching conversational Japanese. The blogs are for reading/listening comprehension, and are very useful in that area, but where are the real, everyday, natural conversations, and intensive drills in usage that a good conversation program requires? They're not in the Upper Intermediate conversations I've listened to, which seem too carefully constructed as "lessons." They also waste a lot of time with their ridiculous gag conversations, which you are forced to listen to everytime you play the lesson. On the other hand, I've found more natural Japanese in those gag dialogues than in the lessons proper, so if someone could channel their approach to non-gag lessons, it would be an excellent contribution to your program. After two and half months of intensive use of 101.com, I can say I've learned a lot, but I'm far from fully satisfied.

Also, I don't know why DKY says the Yuri blogs are too short. I think they're actually longer and more complex than the Miki blogs, which is another reason I favor them.

I miss MIki's blog. Not so much Miki (though she was OK) but the format.

These Yuri audio blogs are way too short. Also, it's not even Yuri really. It's Natsuko just reading out loud. The whole concept is kind of lame if you ask me.

If Yuri doesn't even have the time to record her own 5-minute audio blog once a week then you guys should drop her. I hope you aren't paying her a lot.

It would be much more interesting to just have Natsuko or somebody else (Naomi or Yuiichi) do their own blog. That would personalize it and make it more interesting. It doesn't even have to be a Japanese staff member. It would be good to hear Peter or Eric or Jesse do a blog in Japanese. They might provide insights that the Japanese staff members can't. And, it would be good to hear non-native pronuciation and word usage every now and then.

Just a suggestion.

ファッション事情 literally means "fashion situation". 次条 means "next article." :wink:

店舗と店は同じ意味ですが、店舗は、書き言葉でよく使われます。「店舗をかまえる」は、「店を出す」と同じ意味です。これも、少し、格調高い表現（sophisticated expression）ですね。:wink:

When I listened to this, I kept thinking of the Gwen Stefani song!

This was the hardest lesson for me! So many words besides the vocabulary words I didn't know. Like someone else, 店と店舗の違いがわからないんです。And what does 店舗をかまえるmean?
