どこの国でも楽曲は日々生まれ、そして消えていきます。
そんな中でこれまで紹介してきた九曲は、時代の波に洗われてもなおその輝きを失わず、多くの日本人に支持されている歌。必然的にその誕生は古いものばかりになってしまいますが、今回は比較的新しい曲を取り上げましょう。と言っても今から約40年も昔の歌です。

『翼をください』が発表されたのは1971（昭和46）年。その数年後から音楽科の教科書に掲載されるようになり、四、五十代以下の世代は誰もが合唱曲として歌った思い出のある曲です。大空への憧れが綴られている歌詞は山上路夫（やまがみみちお）によるもの。やや哀愁を帯びた伸びやかなメロディは村井邦彦（むらいくにひこ）の作品です。二人とも昭和の歌謡界で活躍し、幾多のヒット曲を残しています。

さて、この曲は、フォークソングを歌うグループ「赤い鳥」が初めて歌ってからというもの、実に多くのアーティストにカバーされていることでも有名です。青春時代の感傷…今いる環境から自由な世界である大空へと羽ばたいていきたい…という若者の思いを表現しているこの曲は、聞き手だけでなく歌い手をも魅了する歌であることが分かりますね。

When you distinguish them, you have to understand contexts.

When it means ‘often’, it’s a frequency adverb.

For example, よく　としょかんに　いきます　means I often go to a library.

よく　すしを　たべます means I often eat sushi.

The other usage is that the よく is often followed by potential verbs.

For instance, よくできました means ‘well done’, よくひけました means ‘you played (the music instrument) well’.

I know this is a bit unrelated to this blog post, but I was just wondering, with よく - is there a particular way to differentiate between it meaning 'often' and 'well'? That's probably a really really vague and unanswerable question, but do you have any tips for discerning what it means in a certain context?
