Lower Intermediate 7: 誰もいなさそうだけど、gramm

Postby watermen » February 8th, 2008 4:58 am

誰もいなさそうだけど, can someone explain to me the grammar of this sentence.

いなさそ means look like not existing, right?

だけ means only?

ど -->> why is this ど in the sentence, what does it mean?

Thanks for your help

you split the word at the wrong point
だ is the informal copula
けど is "but"

so this would be "it seems like nobody's home."
this けど is sort of a prompt to get the speaker to respond (but the speaker is hoping for a response that contradicts his/her observation.)

hope this helps!
