American appliances in Japan

Postby untmdsprt » May 26th, 2007 4:48 pm

Has anyone successfully used an American appliance in Japan? I know that laptops can be used anywhere, but what about something such as a Gamecube? What about the Japanese Wii? Is there a "boot" disk that will allow it to play American games? I know the reverse is true since I have a Gameshark, and it will allow me to play Japanese games.

I'm not really concerned with TVs, hair dryers, or DVDs since I can buy those in Japan, and my computer can be hacked to region free.

I'm asking because if I'm there for more than a year, I'd like to have a few favorite things.

As far as I know, there's no way yet to play different region discs on a Wii. Rest assured that there are mostly likely people working on it, though. I hate region locking too.

I have found out that Western Japan is on the 60Hz system. So while that maybe acceptable to my Gamecube, the power isn't. :( I'd have to get a booster to bring the power up.

There's no problem using American devices in Japan.

Thanks. Most of the stuff I have has a range of power requirements, this one didn't.
