すんでいる

Hi, everyone. My study of Japanese has just capped the one year mark, and I seem to be doing very well. I'm now reading a child's study book with ease, and I'm near the end of the book. There are few things that are throwing me off, and I was wondering what advice I could get. Here's how it reads:

43. 「おばあさんはよこはまに住んでいます。」

ひろこさんはおばあさんがふたりいます。
ひとりはひろこさんとしんじゅくに住んでいます。
もうひとりはよこはまに住んでいます。
横浜のおばさんはりょうりをたくさん知っています。いいりょうりの本をもっています。
ひろこさんお母さんはときどきおばあさんに電話をかけます。そしていろいろなりょりを聞きます。

1) What are the functions of すんで and もって?
2) I think the word "いろいろ" means something along the lines of "variety"?

If you can give me other examples, I'd appreciate that too.

住んでいます - used for where you are living. 私はカラフォニアに住んでいます。（I live in California)

持っています - used for something you have. 　新しいToyotaの車を持っています。(I have a new Toyota car.)

いい日本語の本を持っています。　(I have a good japanese book)

いろいろ - basically means various/variety.
私はいろいろな食べ物が好きです。(I like a variety of foods.)

さっぽろはほとんど日本人ですが、東京ではいろいろな人々がいます。
(There is mostly Japanese in Sapporo, however in Tokyo there is a variety of people.)

Probably made a few grammar mistakes, but hopefully this helps.
