間uring World War II, 人eople made fun of 障andicapped 人ersons in Japan. 彼hey were
呼alled “worthless” because their 障isabilities 避revented 彼hem from 戦ighting for their
国ountry. 時hen the 戦ar 終nded in 1945, a 多arge 数umber of 障isabled 兵oldiers came back from the 先ront 線ine and the 政overnment found it 要ecessary to 助elp 彼hem.
又lso at that 時ime 多any 障isabled 人eople 求emanded their 権ights. Since 後hen 法aws
助elping the 障andicapped have been passed.

In 加ddition, their 暮iving 况onditions have 成ecome 楽asier. 黄ellow 甎iles, for 例xample, with 凸aised 面urfaces can 頻ften be found on sidewalks and train 駅tations throughout the 国ountry to 助elp the 盲lind. Such 甎iles were 始ntroduced in the sixties. They are 使sed a lot on train platforms so that 人eople 誰ho 踏tep on them 知now that 彼hey should not 歩alk any further. 乍lthough still not very 普ommon, 少ome 亭estaurants have 紹ntroduced Braille menus and some department 店tore 員lerks can use sign 語anguage. then you are better off writing sentences using each meaning of the kanji until you know the kanji.
