Yookoso

Hi, everyone. I have a question regarding a book that I've heard about.

It's called "Yookoso! An Invitation to Contemporary Japanese".

While I heard from someone that it was a good resource, I'd like to hear from everyone else. What's it like?

Has anyone used it?

I have the book and it seems a little busy and confusing when introducing a new topic. I've had to buy other books that went into detail about verb, adverbs, and adjectives. It also seemed focused on students in an university.

It really doesn't seem useful to people who have graduated already.

I used Yookoso in University and thought it was pretty good.

You might also want to look at Genki, it's the most popular one here in Japan for foreigners studying Japanese.

Yookoso is pretty good, but it can be a bit confusing with the pace of the new material it introduces. The general consensus is that most people will only be able to fully utilize it in a classroom environment, where the sensei can go more in-depth on the material introduced in the book and answer questions. For someone practicing self-study, it might be a bit much.

There's also an audio accompaniment CD set and a workbook. You can get the whole package (I think called the media edition or something) on Amazon for a fairly good price.
