... koto ga dekiru

I have just finished beginner lesson 77 where they introduce "koto".
But i don't really get it, what is the difference between these 2 sentences

"akachan wa haihai ga dekimasu"
And "akachan wa haihai koto ga dekimasu"

Could someone please fill me in on it? Becuase i don't really understand.

I haven't listened to that lesson, but are you sure they don't say はいはいすること?

"Koto ga dekiru" is only used after verbs.

赤ちゃんははいはいができます。
akachan wa haihai ga dekimasu.
When I see this sentence I think it is possible for the baby to crawl.

赤ちゃんははいはいすることができます。
akachan wa haihai suru koto ga dekimasu.
On this one I think the baby has crawled already, so is therefore able.


I would always see people using koto for explaining there hobbies, or something they have done. There are other uses, but in beginner lessons, they keep it simple.

ex.
私の趣味は日本語を勉強することと映画を見ることと漫画を読むことです。
watashi no shumi ha nihongo wo benkyou suru koto to eiga wo miru koto to manga wo yomu koto desu.

If this here was right, it would have been really simple, but these sentences in the PDF confuses me.

"Watashi wa oyogu koto ga dekiru. - I can swim"
and
"Tori wa tobu koto ga dekiru. - Birds can fly".

Is it just becuase that する isn't there, that these mean that they can do something?
If we would have added する to them (after the verb), would they have become like this then?


"Watashi wa oyogu suru koto ga dekiru. - I can swim (but i have proven it becuase i did it before)
and
"Tori wa tobu suru koto ga dekiru. - Birds can fly (becuase i saw them do it before, and can therefore say they flew).

Please help me out again dear members of the forum ^_^

Oyogo and tobu are already verbs. They don't need suru.

yup, Only added suru to haihai, because without it, its not a verb.

haihai = crawl /// haihai suru = to crawl
