UK Store for Manga??

Postby sirdrinksalot » March 19th, 2007 2:04 pm

Hi Everyone

Im in the process of learning Kana and have been told of a particular usefull way of learning was to get hold of some Japanese Manga comic books and just sit down and translate the script...just so i can recognize the charecters to begin with. I will translate the meanings at a later stage!

Does anyone know of any UK websites that sell Japanese Manga??

Cheers

Ed

I don't know any websites but there are 3 shops in Central London where you can buy Japanese language manga.

There's a bookshop in the basement of Mitsukoshi department store on Lower Regent Street off Piccadilly

and there's a second hand or remaindered Japanese bookstore on Brewer Street (north of Piccadilly Circus) beside an NCP car park. It's an odd shop that used to be a dry cleaners and I think the signage is still for that. Jam Packed with books though. Good value. everything is shrink wrapped so it's hard to browse.

There's also the Japanese Center again off Piccadilly Circus on Piccadilly. You can get the weeklies or monthly manga here. They do mail order subscriptions as far as I know via their web site. They seem a little expensive though using a formula of 100yen = £1 it seems.

PS.
Manga are more kanji than kana, although often the kanji has furigana. You can find childrens books written in kana in Mitsukoshi though.
