I live in Japan, and I've been trying to pick it up. But I was wondering how do you say "I'm learning japanese" i think it's "Watashiwa....nihongo ....verb."

You'll have more success this way if all you got is one phrase.

を勉強しています．(wo benkyo shite imasu) studying...
を習っています． (wo naratte imasu) learning...

Personally, I think that "studying" is a better word choice than "learning"

If your not looking for the one night stand or don't want to take such a brazen approach just take out the "watashi no uchi de" part.

"Nihongo wo oshiete kurenai?"
Will you teach me Japanese.

Actually I think this works even better because with this phrase you won't scare off a lot of potential cuties. Once you got them as a friend its up to you what happens next.

My girlfriend told me a funny one. Say "Karaoke ni iku? Hoteru de "
Want to go to Karaoke? In a hotel....

I guesse a lot of guys use that. It just depends on the situation. Like I've been preaching, get the Japanese girlfriend and your language proficiency will skyrocket. After that you can start making up your own lines on the spot. Don't forget the run that "strong machisimo" game, they go nuts over it. Just don't over-use it.

p.s. Instead of watashi which is kinda girly/formal try using Boku. Enjoy the thrill and excitement that is language learning.

boku is a male word for I. Watashi is used by either sex

I always study like this: First I listen to the whole podcast, then I write down the words and sentences I learned with help of the list you get with each podcast. I translate the english meaning to Dutch (as far as possible).
Then I listen to the podcast again. At last I learn the wordlist out of my head and try it out for a bit. My family is almost used to me saying 'oyasumi nasai' and things like that. Besides, my mum does the same, (but Italian).

It really helps if you listen to each podcast twice and write it down. I think it's easy to remember, because I just hear in my head Natsuko or Sakura (or... or...) say it.
