Level 3, 85% overall. I'm pretty happy.

How'd everyone else do?

Yeah I was surprised when I saw it in my mail box. I am in Japan, but still, it was much faster than last year.

yeah, last year they came out the weekend of the 10th.

good that you added that you're in Japan, before everyone starts freaking out.

now i'll be contemplating how to ditch out of work early every day this week so that i can check my mailbox. and i'm going to be really irritated if they aren't here by friday, since i'm likely leaving for about a week to go boarding.

Buckoさん,
Congratulations.
I am a little jealous, firstly because you did so well, secondly because you have the results already. I took the test in NYC and I don't expect results until mid-March.

合格!

Postby annie » February 9th, 2007 9:02 am

but barely.

Writing/Vocabulary 70/100
Listening 70/100
Writing/Grammar 113/200

I knew it was going to be close, since I wasn't feeling well during the last section and just guessed on a lot of it and then napped for the last half hour.

Annieさん,
Congratulations. Looks like a 63% to me, just barely over 60%. This is how I hope to pass too. No margin for error.
I took a number of pretests and got scores in the low 60% range.
Now I have to wait until mid March

Congratulations Annie. A pass is a pass, you can't knock it. Out of interest, what do you intend to do next? Will you move straight on to 1kyuu, or try to improve your score at 2kyuu level? Or just forget the JLPT and work on something else?

Since I live in Japan, I can't really stop studying Japanese.

I'll probably take 1-kyu eventually, but if I can find a job with 2-kyu it'll be awhile before I feel like putting myself through the JLPT hell again. I'll buy the 1-kyu study guides, and start working my way through them and then decide in September whether or not to take the exam. But these aren't decisions to be made while there's still snowboarding to be done.

I see no reason to take 2kyu again. As you said, a pass is a pass. Though, if the exam were cheaper, I might do 2kyu again. (I'm thinking that combining sitting the exam and a holiday in Thailand would be brilliant)

In the meantime I might take the kanji kentei... http://www.kanken.or.jp/index.html

Nice work! What's your secret to learning vocab?

I was born in Hong Kong and learnt Traditional Chinese in primary school. That is why I know how to write most Japanese Kanji characters. The part that I had to learn was 読み方 (ie: match ひらがな back to given Kanji). So technically speaking, it was half the work when it comes to studying vocab.

However, I have found some Japanese primary school vocab exercise books in a Daiso type of shop in Auckland a while ago. They help a lot 'cos it teaches vocab by embedding them in phases, thus giving context.

I also find that it helps to practise typing in Japanese because you have to know the exact 読み方 instead of just kanji. On the other hand, sometimes you discover new kanji by entering a word in hiragana and it automatically jumps to kanji.

Wow, you did really well in Reading-Grammar! I got to work harder on that part.
