I got about 30-40%. I understood there was something about Christmas and presents and then about going somewhere and doing something.
It's so much harder to listen to Japanese than to read it. Reading you can slow down and take at your own speed, but with listening, you've pretty much got to be near 100% to get most of the meaning down.
I'm pretty good at reading Japanese but it takes me pretty long. Listening to it, I just get lost. If I miss a word, I naturally stop in my head to recall what it means and then the speaker is miles down the road.
It's very frustrating.
But I DO notice much improvement from when I first started. I would easily say that listening is the most advanced skill to pick up (though followed close by speaking); you really have to know all your stuff.
Anyway, to everyone: don't worry if you got blown away by this. I'm positive we'll all get it one day if we continue to work hard.
