Earthquake and tsunami news

Hey all,

I hope all the jpod101.com'ers are doing all right after tonight's quake and tsunami. I have been trying to get some news on it, but have been having a hard time finding anything other than the notice talking about the tsunami making landfall 10 minutes or so ago in Hokkaido.

Anyone have any blogs or news sites that they could recommend?

Afraid I don't have many sources, but according to what was written in the Asahi Shimbun, the tsunami, reaching a peak of around 40cm (a little over 1ft) down on "chichijima," didn't amount to much of anything, Even if you don't read Japanese, the map is there for your analysis.

I'm thinking everyone is fine.

There is a section on Earthquakes. If you are in Japan you just need to turn on the telly as it is on most channels during the event...

We had a big thump Tuesday morning near Tokyo - woke me up long enough to roll over and go back to sleep The work visitors I have from India got bit worked up but it was only a 5.7 and Japanese scale 2 in Tokyo - I was a bit surprised by that as it felt quite big

My favorite site for checking earthquake info is http://www.tenki.jp/qua/index.html.... Actually, it's one of my favorite weather sites in general.

There's a scrolling menu that lets you select the time and the date of the earthquake you're interested. And the maps are color-coded according to the Japanese shindo (震度) scale and show the range of the quake.

For earthquakes in general, or Richter scale numbers. This US site is decent.

But, it takes awhile for new ones to be uploaded and they only list ones of 4.0 magnitude or larger.
