When reading hiragana, occasionally there will be a character written a little smaller than the rest. Will someone please remind me what this is to mean? (I could not find the answer in my materials)

I found the answer to my question.. I think. The smaller character is to be used in combination with the preceding character. (Ki and Ya = Kya)
