でいる meaning

Postby 1559744853_514433 » November 25th, 2016 3:18 pm

26日の集会について主催者は、過去最大規模の150万人の参加を見込んでいる。

What is the meaning of でいる here and why 見込む is changed to 見込ん?

Thanks.

見込む has not been changed to 見込ん. It's instead been conjugated into its て-form; 見込んで. Adding the verb いる to the end of a て-form verb indicates a state, much like adding -ing to the end of a verb indicates a continuous action. So they are anticipating (or, more accurately, in a state of anticipation for) a record number of 1.5 million people.
