What do these mean?

Postby izzyreincarnated_501977 » June 1st, 2015 12:41 am

So I was playing a game and I saw the following sentence:

"こんなとこ、一人じゃ怖くて進めないや。"

What does the や at the end of the sentence mean? And what does the じゃ right after 一人 mean? Is it supposed to be a more casual way of では?

よろしくお願い致します!

san,
konnichiwa.
Regarding じゃ, as you guessed, it is the same as では and more informal than では.

The や is a final particle which softens a statement.

由紀先生、ありがとうございました。

I have one more question.

I saw someone say "鼻がつまっとってな."
Shouldn't it be つまって ? What does the と do in there? I've also seen some Japanese people put a "と" in their verbs, but I don't understand what it means.

よろしくお願いします

san,
こんにちは。 :)
どういたしまして。
鼻がつまっとってな means 鼻がつまっていてね in modern Japanese.
鼻がつまる means ‘be stuffed up.’
Only つまる means ‘choke’and ’be clogged.’
つまっている and つまっとる have the same meaning however the later sounds old. Old men in fairy tales tend to use it.
