Picture this:

Nobita-kun and his friends are putting on a magic show. Suneo is boasting how great his trick will be. "I'll astonish everybody," he says. Nobita has no idea what to do, and as usual, turns to Doraemon for help.

Now it's your turn to help out.

The translation for Suneo's line (I'll astonish everybody) is "みんあをアッといわせるからな。”

エェェェェェェェ？

It sounds to me like "I'll make everybody say 'ah'". Is this correct? And is it a very common saying?

You've got the right idea. I don't think you need to translate it literally (as, in my personal opinion, it sounds kind of awkward in English). In Japanese, I think this アッという idea is common. I've also seen it used to suggest how fast something was: アッという間だったよ。 As in, it only took the time it takes for you to say "Ah."
