Translating Ni No Kuni's "Magic Master" book for practice

Postby ForgottenMaster » August 5th, 2014 10:38 pm

Hi,

I've grabbed myself a copy of the DS version of Ni No Kuni as firstly I do not have a PS3 and secondly I could use it for extra practice.

I've started looking at the handbook it comes with, translating it slowly, extracting words I don't know to add to memrise later.

I haven't got very far before I hit the second line. I'm sure it says:

魔法の道を究めんとする者よ

Google translate tells me that 魔法=magic, and 道=road....and 魔法の道=way of magic......this is okay, and I recognise the pattern from the previous sentence in there too ([verb] suru mono=those that [verb])

However, I can't find anything useful on what 究めんと means in this context

Any explanations here would be appreciated :)

ForgottenMaster san,

究めんと is similar to 究めようと.
The dictionary form is 究める which means ‘master’. :D
