How do I look up kanji that I don't know? It's easy on the computer to just copy and paste, but when I see it in person, how do I look it up on my phone or in a dictionary?

What phone are you using? You might be able to download some dictionary app that supports handwriting.

On iOS there's Yomiwa. An app that allows you to use augmented reality to see the translation, when scanning the Kanji with your phone camera. Although this doesn't work as smoothely as it should, this app also has a drawing feature, which allows you to copy the kanji with your fingers and this works indeed quite fast and convenient.

The google translate app also allows you to take pictures of kanji. It will scan the image and try to tell you the meaning.
