Learning Pace for a Good Summer

Postby 370c4c6e_498404 » March 27th, 2014 3:49 pm

Hi, I will be in Japan all summer, starting early June. I'm totally new to Japanese and am about a third of the way through the first season of Absolute Beginner. I've done a memrise course and I do italki about once a week. I can dedicate at least an hour of active studying a day plus another hour of listening to podcasts.

I'm looking for help developing good weekly goals to ensure that by the start of the summer, I'm capable of surviving and thriving in a somewhat rural part of Japan. My goal is to be able to survive in restaurants, ask directions, chat casually in bars (do they have those in Japan?), etc. I don't need to be able to translate Shakespeare into Japanese.

I'm looking for concrete, achievable suggestions for goals like: by Apr 6, finish Absolute Beginner Season 1 and know X words, by Apr 13 finish Absolute Beginner Season 2 and know X+100 words, etc.

Really looking forward to your suggestions.
