A few short sentences

Ok. I figure I have a few hundred words under my belt now (well almost a few hundred. Enough to get started anyhow) and I figure its a good time to start trying to put sentences together and giving grammar a deeper look. So here it goes.

These are my glasses.
この眼鏡はぼくのです。　

That is a horse.
あれはうまです。

I am cold.
私は寒いです。

Today is sunny.
きょは晴れたです。

Do you like chicken?
あなたは鶏肉を好きですか？

Ok I'm fully expecting everything to be wrong so let me have it!

I'd say especially first sentence was very well translated!!

There're a couple of things I'd like you to remember:
Today is sunny.
きょは晴れたです。
=> きょう　は　晴れ　です。
「晴れです」 is the correct way.

Do you like chicken?
あなたは鶏肉を好きですか？
=> （あなたは）鶏肉　が　好きですか。
The basic pattern is "[something] ga suki desu" with the particle "ga"

Thank you for the corrections. For my chicken question, I think I have a hard time not saying you/I when it comes to things I would be asking someone I'm talking to. I think that willl take some getting used to. How about if a waiter comes to a table and suggests an item (well stick with chicken on this one) would he still leave out あなたは and just say 鶏肉が好きですか？ I guess I have a hard time identifying what situations you would use it versus when you wouldnt.


One question about "sunny". Why do we drop the た of of はれた？　The flashcard is はれた but I notice instead of adjective, it says 'phrase'.

the Japanese word for "you", あなた, is a very weird word. It's not polite enough for waiter to use, but it's
not used amongst friends. Whenever we know the other person's name, instead of any words meaning "you",
we use proper name, or, just drop it.
Waiter will ask you without the word あなた and, maybe 鶏肉はお好きですか in a very polite manner.
OR　鶏肉はいかがですか (meaning "how about chicken?").

As to はれた, it's the form when you modify noun, like はれた日 (= sunny day).
When it's used with です, we use the noun はれ and say はれ　です。
