How to say....

Postby KhadijahSalim1428 » April 4th, 2013 11:44 pm

I want to say in Japanese that "I need peace." Meaning that I just want to get away and find some peace. Is the correct thing to say "私は平和を必要とする"?

平和 is more of a "big" concept; lack of war, world peace, etc. And I suppose more of a long term thing. I think what you want is rather more personal and immediate. 安らぎ or 静かさ might be more appropriate.

必要 is a na-adjective. It can't be turned into a verb just by adding とする. In fact you don't really need a verb for this.

→ 私は、安らぎが必要です。

That's quite a strong, direct sentence though. So, to soften it, use 欲しい, and maybe 少し or ただ.

→ 私は、少し安らぎが欲しいです。
or 私は、ただ安らぎが欲しいです。

I'm sure there are several other alternatives too.
