Translation fun?

Postby jassianmail6180 » January 26th, 2013 12:16 am

Ohayo Minasan,
(over here at least)

Is this the right section to ask for random things translated for practice?

If so,
I'm looking at "Don't forget to bring [item] today"

If not, would someone point me in the right direction please?

:D

Jessie-san,
of course you can ask here!
If/when you have any questions, you can also write on lesson pages

"Don't forget to bring [item] today" in Japanese would be
きょう、[item] を もってくる の を わすれないで ください。 (formal)
[kyou, [item] o motte kuru no o wasure naide kudasai.]

Hope this helps!

ありがとう ございます、奈津子-せんせい!
(Arigatou gozaimasu, Natsuko-sensei)

Thanks very much!
That was very helpful.

Yay! I figured out the kana/kanji input. Thank you for the instructions in this board.
They were perfect.

(I'm on a funny level. I still need to review a few absolute beginner topics, but also
got a fair bit of passive vocabulary and get some of the more advanced grammar.
So probably a beginner with a few basics to correct who's had a glimpse into the future. )

uhm...
この [site]はとてもだいすきです。
Kono [site] wa totemu daisuki desu.
My attempt at: "I totally love this site."

:oiwai:

Thanks again! :)

If that's OK I might use this thread for more questions.
They'll probably be fairly random.

How would you say 'direct' as in the 'direct route' or 'direct approach'?
I found ダイレクト which sounds English derived.
and a few terms starting with ちょく.
But I'm not sure what to use.

I also experimented with:
日本語 で 書いて を 見出しました
(I discovered how to write Japanese)
but I totally guessed here. How close is it?

:D

Jessieさん、
Of course you can write more questions here too!
We often use ダイレクト like ダイレクト・ルート or ダイレクト・アプローチ, and if you want to
translate "direct" into Japanese, it's rather 直接 or sometimes it's 直接的(な).

What you wrote in Japanese for "I discovered how to write in Japanese" was quite close!
But "how to write" is kind of difficult to translate in natural-sounding way. So,....
日本語での書き方が分かりました。
This literally means "I found/understood the way of writing in Japanese".
