What does 手猫き mean?

Postby mmmason8967 » September 12th, 2012 4:53 pm

The front cover of an・an magazine #1806 has this phrase: 手猫きシール. I know that シール means 'seal' or, in this case, more likely 'sticker'. But I have no idea what 手猫き means, and neither, apparently, do any of the online dictionaries I've tried. Can anyone explain?

For context, see the image below. The phrase is to the right of Kyary and just below the green rabbit.

A clue that you need to go back and look at the characters more closely?

「手猫き」じゃなくて、「手描き」ですよね。または、「手書き」と書きます。
= handwriting as I suspect you realise now.

And, yes, シール = sticker.

That's a 100% spot-on analysis! I've got the actual magazine and I can't even claim that I was fooled by the font: it's very clear, and now that you've pointed it out, the 描 character on the magazine doesn't really look as much like 猫l as I thought it did. Oh, you would not believe how frustrated that little line of text has been making me!

Just as information, 手書き is mainly used when something is "hand written" and when it's drawn (pictures, designs etc.) often 手描き is used.

奈津子さん
Ah, I see. There is a sheet of stickers inside the magazine, and the stickers have designs on them, so 手描き makes sense.
