Mae ni (before S.T) usage examples?

Postby xmoonsirenx » September 7th, 2011 5:53 pm

Can someone please tell me if my translations are correct:

1. I eat breakfast before brushing my teeth in the morning.
- asa, asagohan wo taberu mae ni , ha wo migakimasu.

Q: (is using "asa" in the beginning too redundant since I already said "ASAgohan" ?)

-----------

2. I do homework before playing video games.
- geemu wo suru mae ni, shukudai wo shimasu.

Q: (Should I use "shukudai wo owarimasu" instead, since "owaru means "to finish" ?)

-----------

3. He ate the entire cake before I could try it!
-keeki wo tabete miru mae ni, kare ga zenbu tabete shimatta!

Q: ( Is it okay to use the -te miru form before "mae ni" ?)
( Is it okay to use "tabete" twice in this sentence?)
( Can you use the past tense form of verbs after "mae ni" ? (e.g "shimatta")

-----------

I'd appreciate it if someone could help help me out with some of these questions.
arigatou gozaimasu! : )

The examples all look reasonable to me. I agree that "asa" seems redundant in the first sentence. I think "owaru" is an intransitive verb, so it won't take "wo" for that usage of the particle. "ga" might work. I'm not a native speaker. :)
