Wow, some heavy reading! I saw the site before, but thought you had to pay for the downloads.. Anyway, will check it out.

I am reading some Japanese literature, but it is a bilingual book (Breaking into Japanese Literature). It is very good; Japanese on the left page, underneath all the kanji vocabulary and English on the right page. There are free mp3 downloads of the texts on the following page: http://www.speaking-japanese.com/literature.html

Furthermore, The Reading Tutor has some easier reading material with a translation tool for the Japanese texts. I think it is a handy site, also for beginners! We had to use this during our study.. http://language.tiu.ac.jp/index_e.html

NOOO! Don't buy this book... The translations are awful. The one for Rashomon was so bad that I had to write my own to prove that it could be done.

All of the stories in that book are available for free online at Aozora (夏目漱石の夢十夜 (全体), 芥川龍之介の薮の中・鼻・羅生門) and I've already gone through them and submitted all of the difficult words to edict, so if you have JLPT 2, it should be smooth sailing for these stories!

I am not as far as Rashomon yet..currently reading 'in a grove'. Anyway, I don't think it is that bad, but I'll definitely check out your site/translations. Am quite curious now!

I am glad however that there are bilingual books like this to at least get you into reading literature. I find it quite hard sometimes to understand the exact meaning of the text without being able to verify it in English. I'll work on it though, it's best not to need any translations anyway..but that may take a while !
