Postby gankaidesu7387 » May 9th, 2011 11:54 pm

Maybe it will help if we get together a list of good resourses that have lots of study material. So far I got

Another dandy site!

Let me add one more I found a little while back. It has some grammar notes and lots of phrases with audio and vocab definitions. I find the phrase notes convenient, and it's color coded so it's easy to follow along. Hope it helps some of you out.

http://japanese.about.com/ seems like a good site. I haven't used much of it yet but I've found the Kana sections very good (found under the "writing" tab). I'm sure it has a lot of other good information as well, I just haven't gotten to it yet.

One thing that I liked about it for it's Kana sections is it gives the stroke order and it seems to always give handwritten over printed versions (think き where you can have the third and fourth stroke connected when printed). Still though, it's not perfect and I haven't found a better set of lessons than the Kanatan Kana series. But unfortunately not everyone is a paid member (I'm not, at least not yet) and you have to make due with other material.

Some other sites that I have bookmarked but not had a chance to go over yet are:
http://www.learn-japanese.info/
http://www.learnjapanesefree.com/
http://www.studyjapanese.org/
http://www.freejapaneselessons.com/
http://www.coscom.co.jp/learnjapanese.html

Like I said, I haven't looked through much of these sites and I'm still very early in learning Japanese so they may or may not be very useful.

And finally, another site that you might find useful is http://www.livemocha.com/
This site is not great for teaching you the language in my opinion but once you've got your Kana down and are learning your grammar/Kanji, it can be useful for vocabulary practice. It is also great because you can get writing and speaking help from other members and it's good for meeting people.

I've been using http://japaneserecall.com for the past few weeks. It's an SRS system for vocabulary and Kanji. That's probably the best site I've seen for vocabulary and Kanji actually.
And http://guidetojapanese.org is very good for grammar rules.
Oh and the wikipedia page for "Japanese Grammar" is surprisingly comprehensive.. like moreso than some entire sites even.
