"Thin" when refering to pillows

Hi,
I'm off to Japan soon and I often have trouble with pillows in hotels which are too thick. If I need to ask if a thinner one is available, which adjective should I use for thin?

細い (ほそい) is what I would use.

細い (ほそい) refers to something that is "narrow" (as in not wide), so instead you should probably use うすい (which means "thin" as in not thick)
