Help me with this textst please

Postby Chronitsch » April 27th, 2010 10:12 pm

Hello there, I wrote 2 texsts and I dont know if this would be the right usage of words.
1)
レストランで禁煙はいいアイデア。たばこを吸っては体に悪いし、匂いは不愉快んだ。でも友達は喫煙者たらいっしょに行けない。

2)
時々お酒を飲んではいいんだ。でも飲みすぎては体に悪いだ。飲みすぎたら頭が痛いし、お腹も痛いんだ。

My Translations/what I Want to say:
1)
Its a good idea to forbid smoking in restaurants. Smoking is bad for your the health and it smells unpleasent. but when your friend(s) are smoker(s) you cant go together with them.

2)
Its ok to drink sometimes alcohol. but drinking to muich is bad for the health. when you drink to much youll get headach and also an upset stomach.

For 2 I wanted to write something like therfore, take it easy on the alkohol used with 酒を慎む but I dont know how to but this in a good style fitting to the text.

Also, do I say you get to headache from to much drinking, or does my sentence say Alcohol gets headache.

hope you can help me :D

when referring to the friends, I think you used "tara" when you wanted to use "dattara"

A few pointers

Postby sindhikara » June 4th, 2010 4:06 am

First, who are you talking to? This makes a difference for the politeness level. You use 「お酒」and 「だ」in the same sentence which is strange.
Secondly, I would use 健康 rather than 体 as in its bad for your health rather than for your body.
I'm not fluent, but this is how I'd do it:
レストランで禁煙すればいいだと思います。たばこを吸うことは健康を破壊し臭いです。でも、そうすると友達は一緒に行けないかも知りません。
時々飲酒は大丈夫だと思いますけど、飲み過ぎは健康を破壊します。飲み過ぎると頭が痛くなってお腹が痛くなります。それから飲み過ぎないのをきをつけてね!
I'm open to pointers from experts!

hi there

thank you for your help

This text was supposed to express my opinion of something to people, like in a newspaper or a book, so neither friend nor someone higher than me

btw i thought that honorific prefix o always belongs to sake o.ô

For what I can understand Sindhikara version sound pretty good, more natural style.
Only, the last sentence それから飲み過ぎないのをきをつけてね!there is the particle をtwice. I've been told this can't be done. Can anybody confirm this?
