japanese music that doesn't suck

Postby jhalton » January 20th, 2010 11:05 pm

Aira Mitsuki - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HISbzbxI ... re=related

I Am Robot And Proud - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89RfK8Oc ... re=related

Stuh...that's all I can think of....what do you guys suggest to check out? please no mainstream j-pop (ayumi hamasaki, utada hikaru, etc....)
If I can be picky, something kind of like these 2, techno or mellow or something different and good to jam to

I hadn't heard of Aira Mitsuki (liked the song, though!!), but I was immediately reminded of girl group Perfume. Give them a try!

Yeah, I was going to say Perfume, and Puffy, but I guess both of them fall into the mainstream J-pop category. I always like to mention Supercar and Furukawa Miki in every music thread, too, and I don't want this to be an exception.

Not sure if this is the genre of music that you like but you can check out m-flo or Rip Slyme. Also check out imalu i caught their video the other day and liked it

@Jessi - Hmm, perfume is pretty cool, must check out more. Yea, they do sound really similar, maybe the same producer? (Or one could just be a clone of the other)

@Taurus - eh...i've heard of puffy b4, too pop for me. Kind of like avril lavigne/kelly clarkson but from japan

Hmm, Furukawa Miki.....Not sure what type of music she is....the first 3 on youtube are completely different (maybe these are remixes of her normal songs)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGSwmP5jZRY - kind of reminds me of 90's girl rock (lilith fair) like cranberries or Tori Amos maybe?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmnwB3n90oI - Pretty cool house track
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHkVsfE2eEI - Initial D type Eurobeat style, this will give you a massive seizure

Supercar seems pretty cool
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFLuZubqizI&NR=1

@Mr Mead - That Imalu stuff was kind of cool but a little poppy for meh, Rip Slyme and M Flo seems cool for some hip hop, will have to check out more of that stuff

Oh yea, I forgot to mention before:

Pillows - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f92VWkYl8CI Since you guys seem to like rock, maybe similar
Fantastic Plastic Machine - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKfXhp5LB8U - one of my favorites, cant believe i forgot, anybody know anything along these lines?
Towa Tei - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diCvOEAQHEU

while i'm listing stuff, might as well list this, dont know who it is but it's goofy and a nice track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfDnaDU13ZU
or if anybody knows more like this, the production is cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IU0PlyQ ... playnext=1

wow thats a lot of links, enjoy and be sure to share your favorites back
