A question on Lower Intermediate #58 せて

This is the whole sentence in this lesson

落としぶたは、鍋に直径より一回り小さいふたで、材料の上に直接のせて使うふたです。これをすると、味が染み込み易くなります。

I don't quite understand the grammar in 直接のせて. May someone explain please. Thanks.

chokusetsu means to do something direct. And in this case I believe they are using the nosete from noseru which means to put something on top of something. So it means to put the lid directly on top of the ingredients for the dish they are cooking.
