Working with Dates.

Postby Tanuki505 » October 28th, 2009 4:46 pm

I'm working with dates and am wondering if the following translation is correct.

"Today is Wednesday October, 28th 2009"
今日は水曜日十月二十八日二十九年。

Thanks

In Japanese the order is almost always largest-to-smallest, so with dates it becomes Y/M/D. Also, you wrote "29" as your year instead of "2009." Since most of the time dates are written with arabic numerals, the translation would be better as 「今日は2009年10月28日水曜日」. Oftentimes the day of the week is set apart/abbreviated as in:

「今日は2009年10月28日 (水曜日)」
「今日は2009年10月28日 (水)」

Hope that helps clear things up!

Yes that helps, thank you. I also forgot the です。 on the end.
