help translating こまつた。

Postby JesterDev » October 25th, 2009 9:28 am

I'm attemping to improve my kana reading skills by reading Japanese manga and a Japanese Peanuts comic book. Having a hard time determining the endings of words.

Sadly I'm stuck on the first page with こまつた。 It's in none of my dictionaries. I'm assuming that た is being used as a particle?

Well I don't know the context of what you are having trouble with but most likely that komatta comes from the word komaru which means to experience a difficult situation or be in some kind of unpleasant trouble.

That would explain it perfectly. It's the Doraemon #1, if your familiar with it. From what I have gathered so far he is upset about a seedling. although it looks to me as though he is trying to make tea..

Thank you for your help, it's much appreciated.

Just to clarify, the third character is a small tsu, so it comes out like this: こまった. And mieth's definition is correct :) If you say こまった, you're stuck or in some kind of trouble.
