Whats the word for stroke order?

Postby Siddy » September 28th, 2009 2:10 am

So we all know stroke order is very important for the japanese writing system.

When ever i practice kanji,i write out each stroke sequentially, adding the next stroke each time.
I also write as many readings as i know, under the titles:
音読み (on'yomi)
訓読み (kun'yomi)

Now i want to know the kanji (and reading) for "stroke order"

In a japanese school, what would the teacher call "stroke order"?

So i want to write out my kanji in tables with these titles:

漢字
Stroke order
音読み
訓読み
examples

I want to omit the english, so if anyone could tell me the kanji used for stroke order specifically refereing to learning kanji (like how school kids use it)
that would be great - also a kanji for "example"?

Thanks for any help!

Stroke order would be 書き順 (かきじゅん) :)

Example is simply 例 (れい), though I'm not sure if it would be used here. However, in an online kanji dictionary when they give examples (words that use that particular kanji), they called them 熟語 (じゅくご) :) So maybe you could use that!

Here's an example: http://ja.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E6%BF%80

Domo Arigato!

So far i have this:
書き順 (かきじゅん) [Stroke order]
音読み(おんよみ) [On reading]
訓読み (くんよみ) [Kun reading]
例 (れい) OR 熟語 (じゅくご) [Example]
??? [Radicals]
??? [Meaning]

Anyone know which way of saying example best suits?
Also, what is the word for character radical?

Also what kanji could i use for the 'concrete' meaning?
For example,
山 concrete meaning = mountain

Radical = 部首 (ぶしゅ)
Meaning = 意味 (いみ)

In resources for children I tend to see 熟語 for the examples of compound words and 例文 for example usage in sentences.
I've also seen 熟語例 Best of both worlds!

I'm not sure there is "concrete meaning" in the way you want. That is tied up in 意味. It depends on the words you use the kanji in. What you seem to be looking for is an English keyword. I'd suggest 重要語{じゅうよう ご}or just キーワード
I do see 成り立ち[なりたち]The etymology or derivation of the character.

I'm curious if they also teach the stroke names in JP classes when they learn a new character ?

My daughter goes to an after school chinese class and they call out each individual stroke with the name when they learn it.

Horizontal storke, vertical stroke, short drop, left diagonal, etc..
Ex.

héng The "horizontal stroke",
which is written left to right.
