More JP keyboard entry help.

Postby ggenglish » September 23rd, 2009 6:15 pm

Thanks to all that helped with my last keyboard input question. It's been so nice not having to grab the mouse when swapping between inputs anymore.

I have a new problem though:

It seems that if you enter something like てれび <space>-assist knows that you want テレビ. So the way I see it, you should be able to stay in hiragana mode all the time. My issue though comes with trying to do a word like パーティー. The small vowels I don't know how to represent that. With both hiragana and katakana I generally type い by itself and then cycle through the options until it shows me the small version. Is there are trick to getting this to show up? (I figure there must be something like ざっし where you eventually learn that doubling up the consonant gives you the っ by typing zasshi)

Thanks!

you can use so call soft keyboard for small kana,
but also you can use keyboard normally.
small kana appear if you know why is used really easy, kya, kyu, kyo is -> きゃ、 きゅ、きょ
sha, shu, sho is -> しゃ、 しゅ、 しょ and so one.
Computer work for you Try all ひらがな。
It is really easy. Maybe ask for small つ
Advice first practice complete extended Hiragana(and Katakana too) typing on keyboard. Why I advice this? Small kana used to change reading in combination.
Unlike alphabet , Hiragana and Katakana is not alphabet and order small letter big letter like in alphabet does no exist. Only to change meaning, to make big number of combination.
Small つ ttu っつ (short pause)see how is easy.
Also you can write sign for long syllable
like in my nick name(longer pronunciation than usually)
ゾーキー , this is not combination you have on keyboard key for sign ー
You see easy ask if you need more.

thanks for your reply oskar2008.

I'm specifically asking about the small あ, い, え, お and う on words that I can't make code assist work for me for. For example, web is easy:
web = うぇぶ = ウェブ
obviously because wi, we and v_ are special.

sometimes you see a ねぇ but again. romajing nee won't work for me. I have to type ne, remove code assist and then do the e on its own to get the small char. It can't be that difficult for everyone else.

again to repeat my first example: パーティー
Typing in ぱーていー doesn't work. The fact that the small vowel shows in the middle of the word makes it an extra pain.

maybe when jessi gets up she'll be able to tell me. although i hear there is some new silver week going on in jp. sounds like a beer company sponsored holiday.

For the vowels individually you type xa, xi, xu, xe, xo ぁ、ぃ、ぅ、ぇ、ぉ, for ティ specifically you can write 'thi,' or for テェ you can write 'the.'

I quite was happy when I figured these out as well. ;)

Do not worry , when I start learning how to use PC in Japanese language 「日本語」
I have same problem and maybe half year I was use soft keyboard. Now I normal use normal keyboard when write letter.
I still remember how I try to type and when come to small kana ups every time I open soft keyboard option.
Now really not remember when I last time use soft keyboard.
Practice, 練習 れんしゅう
Have a nice day.
