where is Japanese pod headed?

Postby mieth » August 26th, 2009 3:37 pm

Don't get me wrong by the title. I do love Japanesepod. I started here at zero nearly 3 years ago. I just don't see it as a website that is delivering lessons to get students past (I hate yo use a jlpt analogy) but jlpt level 3. I am noticing a constant churning of the same old lessons. I am guessing because they keep making beginner content for non paying subscribers. I just don't see the lessons pushing forward to more advanced content. Anyways I still love Jpod although I don't really listen anymore. Would love to see more down the line to push forward.

Hi Mieth, Do you read the upper intermediate lessons? I'm at JLPT3 level and find the upper intermediate levels to be very difficult.

I also recommend the Upper Intermediate lessons! A lot of the grammar covered in these lessons are JLPT level 2 and above. We're considering making more advanced content so we appreciate your feedback! :)

Would it be possible to tag each lesson with the level of difficulty? I know it probably will be hard to go back to all the lessons already done, but what about new lessons?

Personally I think the following are equivalent to the JLPT:

Newbie to Beginner - Level 4
Beginner - Lower Intermediate - Level 3
Lower Intermediate and up - Level 2

Audio blogs, premium lessons, etc. are more close to Level 2

I still listen to the upper intermediate lessons but I think there is only one every 2 weeks or so? no? anyway my studying is at a weird spot. I am going to college here in Japan and all of my classes are in japanese. Other than that on days off or with no work I watch or listen to approximately 4-6 hours of Japanese a day. But I still have vocabulary issues. I understand about 30-40 percent of what my professors say at school. Most of the grammar introduced by the lessons does not go over jlpt lvl 3 except the occasional upper intermediate and I passed Jlpt lvl 2 last year. =/
