Need advice on an "i" adjective conjegation

Postby oasispajamaman » August 22nd, 2009 5:32 pm

Hello everyone,
Here are the lyrics of a song that I like, but I'm having trouble locating an explanation regarding why the i-adjectives have a "ki" where the final "i" should be. Any advice?

Yasashiki kaze yo Chikara-zuyoki kaze yo
Utatte ageyou Sabishiki kokoro wo
Utatte ageyou Haruka na omoi wo
Watashi wa hitori Kanashiku hitori
Watashi wo oite Ikanakute

COMPLETE LYRICS: http://www.geocities.com/tokyo/pagoda/5 ... a.html#h01
AUDIO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muPKjIHYMTI

PS
If anyone can provide a complete translation of the song I would be completely in your debt!

the reason why is because those words are no longer I adjectives. They are being used to describe the type of KI. The adjectives are in and of themselves fine they just make a new word like that because they are describing something else.

When you say "they are describing KI," are you referring to KI like in 元?

If so, how does that alter the meaning? Or is it just something contextual/literary that is done for effect?

Thank you for your help. Apparently all I needed to do was roam the internet a while longer to find the explanation that I was looking for! I'm including a link to the page with the information that I found. Again, thank you!

Halfway down the page is an explanation of the ~KI ending for I adjectives!
