I have so many technical problems with JPOD! Help!

Postby Liz21 » July 4th, 2009 4:06 am

I have so many problems these days. I was away from the web site for several months and now everything is causing me a problem.

Here's just one: I started doing My Feed, but in iTunes I can't see the Lesson Notes. What should I do?

I deleted My Feed. Now I get just the regular download, which is easier for me to handle. But my problem is: I can see the Lesson Notes in iTunes on my computer, but not on my iPod. I can see the Lesson Notes from older lessons, but not any lessons from this year.

What should I do? I'm not getting any help at all on this!

Is it the same issue talked about here? (The Post Excerpts text?)
http://www.japanesepod101.com/forum/vie ... php?t=3799

One of our tech staff members had this to say: Users can refresh or resubscribe the feeds and sync to their ipods again to get the missing transcripts. Removing the feed from itunes and ipod and subscribing to it and syncing it again should be a safe way though.

If that isn't the problem, let us know.

Thanks, but I really wonder what it would be like to delete the feed? Imagine downloading four years worth of podcasts!! It boggles my mind.

Isn't there a simpler way?

By the way, when I push the center button on my iPod several times, it gives me a description of the particular lesson, but not the Lesson Notes. I would like to be able to see the Dialogue on my iPod, which I still can see on the earlier lessons.

I don't understand why this was changed. And, as a long-time Premium Subscriber, I don't understand why iTunes and iPod won't show me the Lesson Notes. I tried doing My Feed, but that didn't work either. My Feed gives me way too many things. I use the Internet to see all that material. On my iPod, I like a quick review.

If anyone can help me, thanks!

By the way, I can see the Lesson Notes perfectly in iTunes on my computer. I simply press "Info" and "Lyrics" and there they are! But they aren't visible on my Classic 80GB click wheel iPod!  :?

You could try using another podcast fetch program, and import the lessons into iTunes as songs. This gives you better control of your files.

Dear White Cat!
Thanks very much for this suggestion! Sounds like a great work around. Can you recommend a pod fetch program?

By the way, the tech support at JPOD said they will change the format of upcoming lessons so that the dialogue transcripts will be visible on iPod (through iTunes, I presume). I found out that a change was made at the beginning of 2009 and that's why we can't see the lessons on our iPods.

Again, thanks so much for this idea. Waiting to hear back from you.

I'm looking at "Juice". . . seems good, I think I've heard of this one.

Shiroi-Neko-san,
Just as I suspected: you are very knowledgeable and helpful! I used MyFeed, Premium Subscription pasted the XML - - URL, as shown on the My Feed page into Juice and, VOILA!, when I downloaded to iPod, there was the Dialogue Transcript.

Thanks very much for your help.

I guess later on the Tech People at JPOD will make it so that iTunes will show the Dialogue Transcript on our iPods, as they used to do before the beginning of 2009.

Thanks so much for your help! What a great community we have here!

Juice is no longer supported by the designers, but it still works well, if you know its funny little habits :-)

Some tips for using Juice:

-- Juice sometimes will download lots of old files - make sure you scan the subscription list for ticked downloads and untick any you already have.
-- Create a folder on your computer "Jpod files to sort"
-- Copy your downloads from the Juice download folder into this folder - ( from there you can move then to whatever folder or filing system you choose to use )
-- Go back into Juice and use "Cleanup" to delete the files, but make sure you do not tick "Delete library entries"
-- Mp3 files downloaded with Juice will have very long file names - but you can easily rename them and remove all the unwanted letters at the end
