詰め寄り迎えた9回 - Help!

Postby stevesayskanpai » July 26th, 2009 2:57 am

This is the report of the 1st All-Star NPB game from friday. I understand all of it except the phrase 詰め寄り迎えた, which seems to mean "to draw near to go out to meet", but I don't understand the nuance of it.

Can anyone help?

"game approaching the end at 9th inning" is what I'm understanding from that portion.

I'm sorry, I really don't know anything about baseball, but 8回 and 9回 are 8th and 9th innings, right ? If I get the report right, I guess it means the 1 point difference (1点差) was closed in the 9th inning (5 points victory, 4 in or up to the 8th inning, and the last one in the 9th inning)
詰め寄る means to press, or to draw closer, but I couldn't find 詰め寄り迎える either in Edict, Eijiro, or in the built-in dictionaries of my japanese mac....

(edit) : sorry, Karurosuvさん, I hadn't seen your answer...

詰め寄る means "catch up with", "close to " in this sentence.

1点差に詰め寄り迎えた9回 = in the 9th inning that they closed to within 1 point
