Playback order in Zune

Postby Sp3ctre18 » July 3rd, 2009 7:37 am

I've downloaded the feeds using itunes, and now i want to get them into my Zune. I can put them into the Zune just fine; I have the Zune software watch the folder itunes downloads japanesepod101 podcasts into, and I can theh sync to my zune just fine.

As a test, I loaded on the season 1 beginner lessons. The podcasts show up fine, with the most recent one at the top. Although that makes sense, it plays back top to bottom.... I don't want to listen to lesson 100!! I want to go in order, from earlier to most recent!!

Is there a way to change the order or otherwise be able to play them back chronologically?

thank you.

Make sure your series settings for Japanesepod101 is set to play from the beginning, not the end.
Umm.. Otherwise you could try sorting them by date or number? I've had weird problems like that before too, I can't remember how I fixed them exactly. Screwing around with it I assume, lol.
If worse comes to worst, I'd add them to a playlist individually, or a few at a time and sort them. Sounds annoying but it'd at least ensure you could listen to them in the order you wanted.

Thank you, but I tried... nothing worked. I gave up. :P I didn't really plan on using it, but I wanted to see if I could make it work and if so, maybe i'd find use for it.

A big issue seems to be that jp101 don't have their files labeled correctly? some are missing number signs, some go for example "3 Newbie Lesson #3" while another may say "Newbie Lesson # 4."

Zune related issues were that sorting by date didn't work because it used the download date. Also, it tended to sort like this: "100, 11, 12,.., 18, 19, 200" or something funky like that. :P

I was probably just making it too hard my trying to load them ALL in. to have it over with. I guess 21st century technology isn't yet up for doing something like that lol. Like you said, I'll do a few at a time and that should work. :)

Haha, yeah, it's a little screwed up.. :\

I'm having a huge problem with the PDFs, though.
It sucks... I want them so badly, but I don't know how else to download them in bulk other than putting them in the myfeed thing, but Zune obviously has a problem with that... It doesn't know what to do with non-audio files so won't download them. I can't go to every lesson on the website and save them, of course. And I need them on the computer because, as convenient as the Zune program can be, it won't display East Asian font so I can't read anything on my Zune while listening.
It's peachy.

Do you, or does anyone else, know how to fix this damn problem? I'm downloading iTunes now just to download these stupid PDFs... Maybe this will work, as it's their recommended method, of course.
Grr.

I don't know, I don't use the Zune software; I've kept my jp101 stuff on iTunes. If I remember correctly, Zune software only downloaded audio, not PDFs, but I might have an old version.

And yeah, ITunes will do it easily. Just subscribe to the feed, and if you click "get all" it'll download all the past content, all the audio and PDFs.

Be aware that you should probably go into preferences to pick the download folder.

If you already have all the past audio downloaded, if you have the hard drive space, try copying them all into the itunes folder (do this AFTER you've had itunes download at least one thing, so you see how ituns creates the folders).

Hopefully, when iTunes tries to download them, It'll see that the audio is already there and will thus skip them and only download the PDFs.

Yep. Zune thinks it's too cool for PDFs but boy is it wrong. It's sad, I had to end up downloading iTunes as well so I could just get all the content.

I wish the JPod files were named correctly tho :( it sucks that there are so many messed up.
