Unusual request

Postby Gosza » July 13th, 2009 9:18 am

I was watching various japanese lessons on youtube and one of them had a soundtrack I really liked. I asked the user what it was but didn't get any response so without much hope I used Shazam from the iPhone to identify it and to my surprise it worked. The only problem is that I don't know Kanji yet and I have no clue how to google this band up. I tried using free OCR online services but I don't think they got it right.

Can anyone please retype the name of the band and the album? I'm sorry for such a trivial request, but I would really like to check them out. Here's the screenshot I've got:

Thanks a lot!

Hmm, to be honest I think that either the characters were reproduced incorrectly or that it's not a Japanese artist - nothing comes up in a search for this name and the kanji used seem very odd for a Japanese name (and song title). I don't know what Shazam is so I don't know how it came up with this name, but something seems off about it.

Could you link to the Youtube lesson so we could hear the song? That might be easier!

Thanks, I sure will but I’m already at work and youtube is unfortunately blocked :) so I’ll edit this post as soon as I’m home. It didn’t even cross my mind that the song/artist might not be Japanese.

Shazam is a program that records part of the song that is being played, compares it with its database (using an acoustic fingerprint) and presents a result. It almost always works and if it doesn’t it reads sth like “couldn’t find a match, here’s the list of similar songs/artists”, and in this particular case it seemed that it did find the match so I would be surprised it that wasn’t it.

Still, thanks a lot and as soon as I’m home I’ll post a link to youtube.

The reason this doesn't come up with anything in Japanese is because you're looking at traditional Chinese. With Mandarin pronunciation:

青樱之上 = qīng yīng zhī shàng (above the blue... cherry?)

溆兒 = xù er

Since at this point I'm not sufficiently well versed in Chinese, I can't really pull up anything about it. Those are the characters, however!
