Reading & Writing Skill

Postby jazzbeans » June 6th, 2009 12:23 am

Hi,

I really want to spread the word of Lang-8. Perhaps you have heard of it before?

If not, it's a site that allows you to submit journal entries and have natives correct them. Here's my first entry, to give an idea of what it's like (feel free to roam around my profile, but most journals are open to all too):

Ahh! Embarrassing because I'm not very good at all, but it reminds me...

I think it's better if you are fairly advanced in the language, as I have sometimes struggled due to not being this good. But people are happy to answer questions regarding Japanese! A recent entry I posted was mostly written in English.

I haven't been using it for long by any means, but it has definitely heightened my awareness of both the Japanese and the English language and I feel that it's getting easier for me to naturally read and write Japanese. So...

Please join if you think it'll help you too!

- Ciao, x

Funny, I just started using it two days ago, and it's definitely a great resource, and easy to get started with. I agree that you have to be aware of both languages. I've already seen a bunch of "corrections" by native English speakers who really shouldn't be going anywhere near the correction button.

I know!!

Today I came across a person who corrected an entry in the most bizarre way, I could not understand how a Native English person could write such a correction. But, it makes me fear the corrections I give. I hope they are all right... I try to explain them too, which helps me in a way. At least it reminds you that you cannot rely completely on such a resource.

Is it required for members to correct other entries?

I think this might be a good idea for me to practice my writings and readings. But I'm afraid I'm still very much learning and most probably won't be able to provide useful corrections. Furthermore, although I think I'm fluent in English, it is not my native language *sweats* Actually, I think my native language is also a bit messed up
