Japanese pen-pals?

Postby sortudinho » May 29th, 2009 11:04 pm

Has anyone heard of anywhere where you can arrange to get a pen-pal from Japan? I'm a high school student and I think it would be a great way to practice my writing and comprehension.

I've been looking into it via Google and I have yet to find anything that looks promising.

I recommend http://lang-8.com for writing practice, although not strictly pen-pals. It's a social networking site for language learners. You write a journal entry and a native speaker will hopefully provide corrections.

Well, there are several language exchange sites that perhaps could help you out. Just do a search for "language exchange" in your favourite search engine, and find a Japanese person who has an interest in your native language.

Hey, nice tip. I didn't find that one before. Must say it's one of the better ones I've seen as yet. Going to try it out myself.

I found all my current Skype friends through this site. Make up a profile in Japanese and it shouldn't be long before people start contacting you, although obviously you can search for people and send them messages as well. I tried another site in the past, but this one seems to be very Skype-orientated, so it's very easy to find somebody to have a voice chat with from the get go.
