What are these strange....

Postby rpgherogaz » May 19th, 2009 10:18 pm

arrows next to kanji??

Example

▲長▲閑

This is のどか (PEACEFUL)

I know that is it not always written in kanji form, however, i am trying to use kanji as much as possible (having just finished RTK1)

Any help friends???

I got myself the canon Wordtank v320 (260 pounds well spent) and little things like this trow me off.

Thanks!

Sorry, I haven't seen this before. When is this coming up? When you type kanji? What browser and OS are you using? Or do you mean that this coming up when you use your electronic dictionary?

What dictionary are you using? The codes depend on the dictionary. You should be able to take a peak into your dictionaries introduction or somewhere to find a listing of the codes.
Regardless, in your case, ▲ is indicating that the readings of both characters are non-standards.

Sanseido's デイリーコンサイス国語辞典 ( http://www.sanseido.net/User/Dic/Index. ... J=checkbox ), on the other hand, uses △ to indicate non-standard readings, and ▲ to indicate non-jouyou kanji.

edit: Heh, actually, you said what dictionary you're using. Anyway, I'm not familiar with it, so you just need to go check out your documentation, or possibly a list somewhere inside the device itself.

Thanks guys!

The kanji as far as im aware are joyo (well they are common enough to be anYway ^^) so as for non standard readings, that makes perfect sence, as the combination does nおT follow the normal rules!

Thank you again :) Its great to know Jpod101 forums helps out when in need!

頑張ってくださいね!
