You did it guys! Thank you so much!!! Now all the pdf files can be viewed on macs without using Adobe. Life is beautiful after all

What did you do to get this to work shamanana? My iTunes is still full of unreadable pdf files that I don't know what to do with. I'm not willing to overload my system with Adobe so I'm basically stuffed! I haven't noticed anything that's changed.

:? Well, I am not sure if you read my previous post in this thread where I listed all the files that I found unreadable? In the course of the last week or so they added the Lite versions of those pdf files and those are fine.
It could be that I missed some of the unreadable files that you know of? Let me know and I'll check them out. I am curious. I thought I was pretty thorough. Plus, posting them here means they will be "updated" sooner or later.

Thanks. Now all I need is for someone to add the lite PDFs to 'My Feed' so I don't have to manually go after all the ones that don't work. Maybe an Administrator could sort this for me. I'm storing up all the series for when I get to them so I'll be gutted if I don't have the lesson notes.

Hello chequer-san

You can download the Lesson Notes Lite via "My Feed" by checking the box "All PDF Material" when you create your feed. When you check the "All PDF Material" box the resulting MyFeed will have Lesson Notes, Kanji Close-Up, and Lesson Notes Lite.

still a problem....

Postby ridisculous » April 21st, 2009 3:11 pm

So, this is still a problem? I just signed up for a trial and the lesson notes are pretty much the main feature I was hoping to use and would have subscribed for. I thought it would be nice to have the read the transcript and have the grammar notes. Maybe copy a particularly good grammar example into my flashcard program so i don't forget it.

But seriously - PDFs don't work on a Mac? The 'lite' version is ugly and doesn't support copy and paste (and no, I'm not trying to steal the content, I'd just like to personally use something I pay for)

PDf's on a Mac

Postby tricycle222 » April 21st, 2009 4:39 pm

Hi Ridisculous,

I started the thread since I too have a mac (System X 10.5.6). The original pdf's used the font that you do not like. ( I personally think they are very nice, but there is no disputing taste.) The new format was added to J101.com because it was not possible to copy and paste single characters or sentences with the old version. Now you have a choice: Lesson Notes or Lesson Notes Lite. The Lesson Notes require you to use Adobe Reader 9.1 (not Preview) and then you can cut and paste to your heart's content. You may have to download the Japanese Font for Adobe Reader but I think Adobe will automatically send you a message telling you what to do. I don't like having to use Adobe and I don't care for their font, but I do like being able to cut and paste.

Oh, so that's why there's a Lite version of the notes. I wondered about that. I always use Adobe since I hate preview.
