Are the characters showing up in the titles? I've had this happen to me and the only way to correct it is to retype the words that are giving you the problems.

The quickest way to correct this is to put the system into Japanese, then load iTunes. Find the ones that are giving you problems, and do command-I to get the "get info" screen. Go to the tab that has the song title and do a copy and paste on each title that's giving you problems. It should correct it when you put the system back into English.

If this doesn't work, you'll have to retype the titles while the system in English. I believe it has to do with the unicode format the system is in when in English.
