Help: Typing in kana and kanji

Postby Noah Bayless » February 17th, 2009 7:44 pm

Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone knows of good programs or techniques for typing in kana and kanji. How do you do it? Is there a popular transcription program, or some kind of language settings in Windows..?

I can read and write kana very fast on paper, but I only have an English keyboard, so I'm pretty clueless about how to type in anything other than romaji.

Thanks for your help!

Typing Japanese and such on a Mac is ridiculously easy, but on Linux, I struggle to make it work well (i.e. user-friendly). Anyone have luck on that? I know there's SCIM and such, but making it work on say Ubuntu + GNOME isn't easy, despite the otherwise user-friendly OS.

Thanks!
