how would you say this?

Postby rpgherogaz » February 17th, 2009 1:55 pm

i was trying to pull together some sentences on my own with what i know already, but something has got me stuck.

I want to say "if you want to always drink to much (over the top), go to tokyo"

to drink: nomu
to much: sugiru
conditional: kereba

anata wa nomisugitakereba, toukyou e ikinasai!

Is that right?

also to advance on the sentence....

biru wa hatarakinagara, nomisugitakereba acchi ni ike!
(if you want to drink to much while bob works, go away!)

Thanks!
Gareth

Good job. But I would add itsumo = always

anata wa itsumo nomisugitakereba, toukyou e ikinasai!

aa yes, i did think of using istumo and tokidoki (which i think it sometimes)

So am i right in thinking that adding "sugiru" comes before the "tai" and "nakereba" additions?

Also, thank you for your time :)

There are a bunch of complicated rules for when you can and cannot use the れば (reba) conditional, and if memory serves (it has been 3 years), when you're issuing commands or volitional statements, you have to use the ~たら(tara) form instead. Since I don't remember perfectly, this is not a correction so much as something to make a mental note about.

Gareth,

Here is how will I put the it.

I find NOMISUGITAI a little awkward. I may be wrong though. So I will say..

ITSUMO IPPAI NOMITAI NARA, TOKYO NI IKINASAI

And isn't it NARA is better here than EBA? Again, I may be wrong.
